ZOOM B6 Bass Multi-Effects Processor

The ZOOM B6 is more or less the entirety of my bass rig. It’s a massive step up from the old Line 6 Bas POD that used to be my live/studio rig, and still far easier to schlep than the Warwick 3/4 stack I used before that.

Pros:

  • Wide range of amp and cab models, allowing for a variety of tones

  • Versatile effects, including distortion, chorus, flanger, and more

  • Ability to store and recall up to 200 patches

  • Expression pedal input for added control

  • USB connectivity, allowing use as an audio interface and IR loading

  • Balanced XLR output for clean and balanced signal in live performance and recording applications

  • Solid build quality and compact size for easy transport and setup

  • Intuitive and user-friendly interface

Cons:

  • Some users may find the learning curve steep when navigating the pedal's many features

  • May not have as realistic a sound as some dedicated amp heads or cabs

  • Some users may find the sound quality to be lacking compared to higher-end gear

  • Not all effects and amp/cab models may be suitable for every playing style or genre

  • Expression pedal is sold separately (ZOOM FP02M - $59.99)

As a bass player, finding the right gear to enhance your sound can be a challenge. But the Zoom B6 has made that search a whole lot easier. This multi-effects pedal packs a ton of features into a compact and sturdy design, making it the perfect choice for players of all skill levels.

One of the standout features of the B6 is its powerful amp and cab simulation. With over 90 different models to choose from, I was able to find the exact tone I was looking for. Whether I wanted a classic vintage sound or a modern, high- Gain tone, the B6 had me covered. And the cab simulation is just as impressive, allowing me to select different mic placements and cabinet types to get the perfect sound.

You can edit your signal path, from what pedals/amps you want to their order in the chain, all from the 4.3” touchscreen.

The B6 also offers a wide range of effects, including distortion, chorus, flanger, phaser, and more. These effects are easy to tweak and customize, so I could fine-tune my sound to my liking. The built-in tuner is also a handy bonus that I use all the time.

The built-in tuner is only a single footswitch press away at all times.

Another great feature of the B6 is its ability to store and recall up to 200 patches. This means I can quickly switch between different setups for different songs or gigs, without having to fiddle with the settings on the fly. The expression pedal input is also a huge plus, giving me even more control over my sound.

The ZOOM Guitar Lab software gives you complete control over everything on your pedal, all from the comfort of your PC.

The B6 also has USB connectivity, allowing me to connect it to my PC and use it as an audio interface. This opens up a world of possibilities, as I can record directly into my DAW and take advantage of the B6's powerful amp and cab simulations. The B6 also has an impulse response (IR) loader, which lets me load custom IRs to further customize my tone.

The Guitar Lab software also allows you to edit your signal chain directly from your PC!

Finally, the B6 has a balanced XLR output, which makes it easy to connect to a PA system or recording console. This output provides a clean and balanced signal, making it ideal for live performance or recording applications.

The balanced XLR output is one of my favorite features of the B6.

In terms of build quality, the B6 is solid as a rock. It's built to withstand the rigors of live performance, and its compact size makes it easy to fit on my pedalboard or in my gig bag. The interface is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy for me to navigate and tweak my settings.

Even in the dark, everything on the B6 is easy to see and use.

All in all, the Zoom B6 is an excellent choice for bass players of all levels. Its powerful amp and cab simulations, versatile effects, and customizable patches make it a pedal that can grow with you as your playing evolves. Whether you're a gigging musician or just starting out, the B6 is a great investment that will provide you with the tone and versatility you need to take your playing to the next level.
