Warwick RockBass StarBass Review
The Warwick RockBass StarBass is a high-quality instrument that is perfect for both beginner and experienced bassists. It boasts a classic-style, hollowbody design made of Laminated Flamed Maple, giving it a warm, woody tone. The bass is also covered in a lustrous Metallic Solid Gold paint job and features front and back body-binding. The 32" medium scale-length set-neck is made of maple with a Wenge fretboard, which has a comfortable, slim profile that is easy to play. The hardware, including the bridge, tuning machines, and included straplocks, is of the high-level quality that Warwick is known for.
The sound of the Warwick RockBass StarBass is equally impressive. Plugged in, the bass has a punchy, clear tone that is suitable for a wide range of musical styles. The passive MEC single-coil pickups provide a wide range of tonal options, and the classic 2 vol & 2 tone + 3 way pickup switch controls give you just the right amount of on-board sound shaping. The bass also sounds great unplugged, with a warm, resonant acoustic tone.
Playability is another strong point of the StarBass. The 32" medium scale-length allows for a more relaxed playing position, which can be especially beneficial for players with smaller hands or those who struggle with hand fatigue. The action is set perfectly, and thanks to the standard Warwick Just-A-Nut III and 3D Bridge system, it is easy to set up however you'd like, making it easy to play both fast and slow passages. The neck shape and string spacing are also very comfortable, making it easy to move all over the fretboard.
Overall, the Warwick Star Bass is a fantastic instrument that is suitable for players of all skill levels. Its combination of great sound, comfortable playability, and beautiful design make it a standout choice for any bassist. Thank you to Sweetwater, where I bought the bass and had an excellent experience (shoutout to Ms. Darcee!). Check back with me in a month or two when we take a look at a bass on the opposite end of the scale-length spectrum.
